It is a noble grape variety and very appreciated in Portugal and the world.
Touriga Nacional is a thick-skinned grape, rich in colour and tannins, giving excellent structure and ageing capacity. But it also has lovely, intense floral and fruity flavours – ripe blackcurrants, raspberries – with complex hints also of herbs and liquorice. Yields are never high, but the winemaking world is beginning to wake up to its quality.
Touriga Nacional gives depth, volume and longevity to wines. The wines produced or blended with Touriga Nacional are pretty balanced and with good ageing capacity.
